Friction tags

The exact rules behind each friction tag Vision adds to sessions, for human visitors and AI agents.

Up to date with v1.1.0Updated 17 October 20262 min read

A few minutes after a session ends, Vision reads its timeline and adds friction tags. Tags are rule-based, not guessed by AI, so the same behaviour always gets the same tag. They feed the session list filters, Overview and patterns.

Human friction#

TagRuleWhat it often means
Rage click4 or more clicks within 1 second on the same element, or within 30 pixels of each other. Clicks inside form fields are ignored.Something looks clickable but does not respond fast enough.
Dead clickA click on an interactive element (button, link…) followed by no change on the page and no navigation within 1 second. Counted once per element and page.A broken or slow button, or a control that only looks interactive.
JS errorA JavaScript error on the page. Up to 5 distinct errors per session.A bug that may block the visitor.
U-turnThe visitor opens a page and comes back to the previous page within 10 seconds. The page was not what the link promised.
Form abandonmentThe visitor typed in a form and left the page without submitting it. Typing in search fields does not count.A form that asks too much, or a field that blocks.
Long hesitationMore than 20 seconds without any action on a price, delivery, cart or checkout page.Doubt about price, delivery costs or the next step.
Checkout exitA cart or checkout page is one of the last two pages of the session, and the session did not convert. An abandoned purchase.

Page types are recognised from the address. Cart and checkout pages include paths such as /cart, /basket, /checkout, /panier and /commande. Hesitation also applies to pages whose address mentions price, pricing, shipping, delivery, tarif, prix or livraison.

AI agent friction#

These tags are only computed for AI agent sessions.

TagRule
Agent loopThe same action on the same element 3 times or more without a page change.
Agent blockedA captcha, consent or sign-in wall was reached and the session ended within 30 seconds.
Agent form failureA form validation error, or a form submitted with no page change in the next 5 seconds. Once per page.
Agent abandonedThe session ended on a funnel page (cart, checkout, sign-up, contact, booking, quote…) after 5 or more actions, without converting.

Conversion#

A session is converted when it reaches an order confirmation page or the page sends a purchase event to the Google Tag Manager data layer. Confirmation pages are recognised from paths such as /thank-you, /thanks, /merci, /order-confirmation, /order-received, /confirmation, /checkout/success and /commande/confirmation. A converted session never gets Checkout exit.
